Project: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton
What it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb9RupIkhQ8

Valve spent two years on Proton development and then made it opensource to ensure it's steady development are devs willing to try it ?

- No need to develop and support separate linux version.
- No need to develop and support linux package.
- No need in licenses partnerships etc, Proton is opensoure, so devs or community can introduce fixes and changes needed to run Survarium on linux.

I tried to run Survarium on Steam Play with Proton, but it crashes at the installer phase. Even if it would install, then probably BattleEye would intervene. But I will try again when new version of Survarium will be released.

Well Survarium is network game maybe it fails when tried to determine on which Windows it's running, or tries to add Windows firewall rule. That's expected and maybe even easy to fix for devs.

When I tried to install the game using Wine, installer failed just after language selection - runtime error. Steam version doesn't even ask for language, instant runtime error. Thats sucks, most of the time you are at least install games, but not in this case.

please try that

If you want to try out Proton and the new SteamPlay, you need the latest versions of the video card drivers for NVIDIA (NVIDIA 396.51) and AMD (Mesa 18.1.x, for Core OpenGL you need Mesa 18.2).

Proton may need a few libraries that do not have steam-native-runtime. The Steam Runtime brings this with.
Start Steam with the command steam-runtime or select Steam (Runtime).

VG developers are aware of Proton. However, it can not be used by Battleye. So unless BE creates some sort of Proton-aware version (that also can detect cheating on Linux-side), Survarium won't work via Proton.

From what the developers see, in ProtonDB Survarium has way more issues than just anticheat.
And before Battleye & Proton Survarium was completely unplayable via Wine (Proton predecessor).

Right now it seems that Survarium won't be playable in Steam Deck/Proton even if VG applies for Battleye update.
If this assumption turns out to be wrong (or if these issues are fixable) then they'll apply to Battleye afterwards.
