I don't think that is true. Radiation can cause a huge number of different variations and mutations. Although many of these are liable to cause death or be simply benign, there is nothing saying the mutations can't occur to sex cells and become traits of children. It might be implausible, but it isn't impossible. It is the same process as the random chance factors of evolution, but on a sped-up scale. Instead of time providing variation in genes, we have radiation from nukes or the effects of the Zone.

While you do have a point there really is a slim chance of a "good mutation". I'm saying that a chance for something to become a Survarium or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. like organism is a hundred (or even much, much more) fold smaller than winning a lottery (metaphore for saying at the edge of possible).

*EDIT:* I'm gonna touch on genetic engineering sometime soon. And what angers me is that everyone keeps saying radiation /from/ nukes and power plants. Most people don't know that there are more types of radiation (I'm gonna explain that too). What you are saying is (I think) that you're referring to some other type of radiation, since the radiation emitted from nukes and power plants it (I think gamma radiation). It's a wide subject and it's easy to make a mistake so I'm just theorizing.

Reason of apocalypse ? Some new type of mass destruction weapon that was meant to genetically mutate plants so a society gets distroyed by nature leaving no trace. Terrorists stole it and launched it upon most powerful countries of the world.
Or some greenpeace afilliated terrorist group made some kind of genetical virus that mutates the plants killing the society due to their fanatic naturalism like the shiva virus from Tom clancy's books that was an laboratory made virus that gave imunitary system to plants and killed the humans.

Or some kind of asteroid falled on the earth and all begun with a red zone. But this red zone started to spread faster and faster deostroying the society.

The only way the human can survive is them to understand that there is a new species that dominates the earth and the humans now are dinosaurs, the hunters beings hunted. They must adapt to the changes of the new world and live with it.

As far as post apocalyptic story settings go, the whole plant thing is pretty unique. I'm interested in seeing what else the devs can do with it. And as much as I love the wild Ukranian setting, you can do way more stuff with this backstory.

Due to the fact that there are anomalies there has to be some kind of physical (radiation) or supernatural force involved. I would neither go with Aliens, nor Deep Ones. I would suggest an experiment like the large hadron collider having gone wrong, spawning anomalies around the world. One or several of the anomalies change the physical nature/DNA of those/that who/which are/is exposed to them. That way the Plant problem, Mutants, the "magical ways" of the fringe settlers and artifacts can be explained.

2. Fringe Settlers: Coexist or adapt by exposing yourself (or others) to anomalies and hope you get changed in a way you can adapt.

Maybe the earth was sentient all along, and for awhile all the natural disasters it caused were enough to keep humanity in check, but with the rapid industrialization of the world powers it realized it was in serious trouble, so it unleashed all this crazy forest crap to remove the threat once and for all. Best way to deal with the spread of nature would be to treat it with respect and give it it's space. Try to live with it so it doesn't murder the crap out of you.

I interpret survarium as a game where humanity makes a final stand to brave a danger that we somehow all knew was coming,but could never prepare for.
Humans are naturally conquerors and an opposing force to anything and everyone,including itself.
Survarium is when the Mother Nature,no the world, takes itself back from Man.
I view the forest as an equalizing force,push and pull,yin and yang type of thing.It balances and controls all that is in chaos,and humanity is at the receiving end of judgement day.

I agree with the view of Britvica, and i think that the "real" story must be incomplete. And that's not important now. People must survive first, and humanity forgot what it was before the disaster. Pieces of the past are in the secrets labs, and side quests can be the collection of the "old experiments" for your own story.

I put myself as a survivor in the game, asking the truth about what happened: war, aliens, religion, natural disasters, chemical disasters, "mother nature killing time", random chaos, "vegans did this". All explains the story of survarium, all the people in survarium has there own view of the past, and people thinks that the truth is power, so you pick one side, and you fight for that side. Nobody knows the real cause, and you can find pieces of that in the game.

Hi all ! My seeing of this is about survive the apocalypse! Some player will try to exploit the week, some will try to keep the remains of humanity , some will look for secrets knowledge, some.... well some will just do what they can.. but me i will try to protect nature ... like Druids or Rangers in D"n"D do! for me it will be super thing if we get "perks/skills" when we lvl. up that help us to blend in nature more and more, the more we help nature the nature give us more and more benefits like natural camouflage, hostile animals ,monsters see me/us as allies as I/we grow up in lvl, reduce our needs for food and or water, or even on a high lvl. we get some resistance to anomalies effects, or maybe we get benefits of moving faster,getting more stamina, bather hp regeneration ... but all of this will be super if we get this bless from nature thru missions in pve or some pve events in near future (hope game go out fast ).. but all in all give us a chance to make really uniqs characters... and i so few post in this forum ... hunting, gathering, scavenging, crafting hey they are all good, any mmo need to to have it, but also need a good and balance markets, and plzz do something for gilds like gilds houses,bunkers, or any places that in game characters can build will be permanent but also loot-able !! and it will be nice when we go off our character dont vanish for game instead he start do be NPC do some mundane work like "guard on gild house or start to scavenge some (safe) ruins" ..

Controlling a area with organized hunting parties, some form of basic law&Order. As it is a Apocalypse their is no simple solution to the problem apart from slowly rebuilding the world, meter by meter!

Why rebuilding the world that cause this apocalypse??? Why not make bather one in stead! Not against nature but whit Nature on our side so we can prevent next apocalypse and live in harmony and peace whit new world settings!

we should make the story little bit interesting...

by including chaos for food,shelter,bullets and everything...

which makes this fighters go wild for their teams....they build camps,attack each-other at surprise...

though i have not entered the game...still GUNS AND BODY armor should be customizable...

nd character summary for whole playing session and leaderboard establishment...
the most important thing cause this mmo's r compeititive and every player wants to shine and stay on top...

Im pretty new to the forum and maybe i oversaw something about the story but i don't think we have to deal with a nuclear catastrophe. There is just too much living left. We all now lots of post-apocalyptic scenarios based on a nuclear war or something like that and even tough there is mutated live left it never gets overhelming there is more wasteland than anything else. so what could it be? maybe the mutations are caused by the pollution at all. even in real life they found transgender fishes and specialists say it could be from plastic particles in the water. now this could go even further we know many other chemicals than just plastic. or was it even an experiment for biological weapons that got out of hand? or maybe there were even stranger phenomenons responsible that didn't even come from earth.
btw if one of the devs reads this. can it be that you mixed another book from the strugatskys into the already existing stalker setting? the little bit about the forest that i read reminds me a lot of snail on the slope :)

Considering this you could say we are a disease and the forest that has overgrown to kill us is the earth antibodies and is has be sent to kill us all?Considering in S.T.A.L.K.E.R there is the burnt fuzz it could be that the plants genetic material has been altered to some degree that if it is moved too fast it can "burn" you.

So maybe the earth is a organism and we are a virus that infects it or simply we tampered with thing we shouldn't have i`ll leave that up for debate.
