The Alpha Test Diary #3

A section dedicated to developer Q&As.

Greetings Survivors!

It has been almost a month since the last Alpha test diary update. Despite the silence our team continues to work day and night to improve the alpha version of Survarium. Through the past month, we have doubled the number of alpha testers and also made hundreds of fixes in the current game build. At the end of May we released another hotfix (V0.11e), after which we got down to working on version 0.12. Frankly, we expected to be able to release V0.12 by mid-June, but some tasks turned out to be a lot more difficult than we had expected.
So we decided to break the silence and tell our players what they can expect when we deliver v0.12 and why we believe it is so important to us.

First of all, the version 0.12 will have a completely modified synchronization mechanism for the server characters and their client copies that players see. As a result, the network traffic will be shrunk considerably, as well as the synchronization issues will be fixed (right now they spoil the game impressions).

Also, we will add a new location titled "School" to the rotation. On top of that, anomalies and artifacts will be activated on the existing locations (as of now only two types of artifacts will be available for testing).

The third important change will be the introduction of a final lobby interface. The upcoming update will contain only the part related to the character's equipment and gear. Hopefully, the new interface will prove clearer and easier to navigate for the players :)

Well, finally some useful information for those who have not yet gained access to the alpha testing: we're going to double the amount of alpha-testers after running 0.12.

We will keep you posted on the launch plans for the International alpha-testing. We are doing our best to reach that point as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

I was just working on the wiki and I got curious about something.

Members of the Survarium community, would you find it useful if item pages listed the patch version that they were introduced in? I.e. You could go to the School page and see in its infobox that it first appeared in version 0.12.

Also, do be sure to keep us updated when 0.12 goes live. (I'm still looking for a date for 0.11a as well.)

Yes, if it won't make the wiki too cluttered. Sometimes too much info can get in way of aesthetics and ease of use.

We will, of course notify everyone when V0.12 is live. However, as for the V0.11a information. I am trying to track that down. But I cannot promise.

See the "First appearance" statistic on the Minecraft wiki for an example of what I'm proposing.

Much obliged, and thanks for the update. Any information you can provide is good news to me.

If we get enough statistics to warrant such a section, then sure, why not?

In any event, looking forward to 0.12. While I understand the reasoning, there was a part of me that was a little disappointed that anomalies/artifacts didn't initially make it in, and made half the equipment pointless due to the lack of armour protection.

Hopefully we get a lucky few from our core community. The vocal sort that will let us know their opinions (only sharing what they're allowed, of course).

Well yea if we don't get enough info it would be of no use but my guess is that there's going to be a ton of tweaks here and there so it won't be to hard to get that info (alsong as nexolate mentioned we get some vocal people in the alpha test)

Oh and nexolate if you ever need some help with the wiki just give me a call and i'll gladly help !

Well, there doesn't seem to be a problem with posting changelogs (since Joe was helping us out as such in Test Diary #2). Hopefully that means some alpha testers will be allowed to post up the logs in the public sections of the forum and/or the wiki too.

Change-logs are/will not provided to testers. We will continue to post them when they are available. As soon as I have V0.12's log, I'll post it. :)

Hm... so I guess we have to wait a bit longer until international alpha... but I guess that's just how it is. Thanks anyways for keeping us up to date.
