The Alpha Test Diary #2

A section dedicated to developer Q&As.

Hi everyone!

Last week we presented Survarium at the KRI 2013 conference in Moscow. It was quite risky to bring a game which had only been in alpha-testing for less than a week to a public demonstration. However, due to the amazing support of the players already testing we could successfully rise to the challenge! Throughout the three days of the show our small booth was crammed with spectators and volunteers wanting to play Survarium. The finale of the trip was the receiving of ‘Best Debut’ award and, particularly important for us, - the ‘Visitor’s Choice ‘award. Of course, the game is still full of bugs, drafts and incomplete features, but that small victory reassured us that we are moving in the right direction.

As for the game itself, on the first day of the show we released a patch that added a new playable location (‘Chemical Plant’) to the game, as well as considerably modify the fire arms’ balance.

- With the upcoming update we will add a few more changes to the zone-based damage system, which will allow the players to enjoy themselves a lot more. (Currently it’s easy to kill a guy, rather than injure his arm).

- The sound improvements are almost complete. In the upcoming patch we will release part of the changes. We plan to finish fixing the known problems by the end of the month.

- Some graphics optimizing has been done.

- Running the game on systems where RAM - VRAM (RAM memory minus Video memory) is less than 1.5 GB is still a slight issue. Those would be most of the computers with modern video cards and 32-bit OS installed. We expect to solve this issue by the end of the month.

- We expect to launch the English/International closed Alpha testing in the second half of June (we want to ensure all the current critical issues are solved before we can start testing internationally).

And, to cap it all off here are a few stats:

- We’ve had 454 players in-game the last week.
- The max game session time registered has been 6 hours and 12 minutes.
- The max number of frags in one game was recorded at 36. Achieved by three players at a time.

Brace yourself, the angry fan posts are coming.

EDIT: Out of curiosity, what was the version number for this patch?

Much obliged, Joe. Would it be possible to include the version number in future diaries as well? It would make it easier for me to keep track of the game's development on the wiki.

We're going to be addressing the location in the next developer diary video and subsequently adding the information to the game website.

Seems like most of it is just improving the overall quality of things. Nice progress is being made.

If the team goes ahead of schedule by chance, would there be a possible earlier release for an international Alpha?

Vostok Games FAQ:Q: What are the system requirements for Survarium?
A: Survarium uses a cutting-edge technology supporting DirectX 11 and multicore processors. The engine is designed to require a video card no less than a GeForce 8800 with 512 Mb on board, and a PC with 2 GB RAM. To ensure smooth play experience users will need a stable Internet connection of 64/32 kbit and up.

I suppose it wouldn't be possible to get patch notes? With the nda in the back of the head.

Patch notes would indeed be awesome, even for those that aren't selected to participate in the Alpha.

Just a thought that popped in my head. Seeing as i am one of those Patch note freaks that absorbs every piece of info that's on it just to stay ahead in knowledge. Cause knowledge is power and with it you can outmanouver your opponents.

(I do it in every game)

The press text included the change-log for patch V0.11b. The update to V0.11c was fairly minor and basically just correcting some stability issues. Nothing really to speak of.
