Survarium Update 0.33 is now live! You will find the complete list of changes the update below. Have a good time playing the game!

The Complete List of Changes in Survarium 0.33

Gameplay

Pockets for supplies have been substantially redesigned. Now there are 3 types of pockets by default:

- For medicine
- For explosives (mines and grenades)
- For special supplies (radio, rations, artifact-master, protein, energy drink, motherwort extract)

By default, all pockets have 1 slot allowing you to take one bandage or one grenade. Some supplies (mines) require 2 slots and cannot be equipped by default. The pocket size can be increased with some equipment items.

- Pockets capacity parameter removed from the game
- Changed the types and amount of pockets for equipment. We will soon publish a summary table with items' parameters
- Added a new modifier called Explosion Protection. You can get it on body armor, pants and helmets. The maximum value of the modifier on one item is 5%. Also some items have explosion protection as an embedded modifier
- "Forest Sense" skill no longer displays artifacts of other characters
- "Deep Pockets" skill disabled
- "Artifact Container" skill disabled
- Reduced the amount of health restored by regeneration. The maximum modifier is now 1%
- By default all characters health is restored at the rate of 1% per second
- Now theres one second delay while using medical items
- Armor is now 1.5 times less effective in reducing explosive damage
- Mine deactivation time reduced to 2 seconds
- Larkspur: health regeneration upon the artifact activation increased to 50% per second
- Onyx: passive damage reduction increased to 7%, damage reduction upon the artifact activation reduced to 50%
- Added support for two new game events:
- Infinite Respect players might get 2X experience and reputation for victory in any mode.
- Treasures of the Old World players might receive the best possible reward when ransacking stashes.

Changes in Weapons and Supplies Balance


- APS: damage decreased to 22, rate of fire decreased to 600
- SVD: recoil increased to 3.4
- UMP-45: damage increased to 25
- vz. 58 P: armor-piercing decreased to 40
- MSBS Radon: armor-piercing decreased to 50
- M4A1: armor-piercing decreased to 50
- RPK-74M, armor-piercing decreased to 50
- MP-7: damage increased to 22, armor-piercing decreased to 40
- Pecheneg: armor-piercing reduced to 60
- FN Minimi: armor-piercing reduced to 55
- AK-12: armor-piercing reduced to 55
- VHS-2: armor-piercing reduced to 55
- SCAR-H: armor-piercing reduced to 60
- ASh-12: armor-piercing reduced to 60
- Barrett M82: rate of fire decreased to 45, penalty to spread while moving increased by 25%
- VSS: rate of fire increased to 650
- VSK-94: rate of fire decreased to 650
- Shotgun damage at the long distance (when firing shells, no changes to slugs) decreased by 20%
- A number of cartridges in a pack for ASh-12 and FN SCAR-H increased to 30
- SCAR-H: the price of generic ammo pack increased to 200 silver (from 50)
- MON-50 damage increased to 350
- Bandage: application time is 0.3s, health regeneration is 25 in 1.5 seconds
- Medkit: application time is 1s, health regeneration is 100 in 5 seconds
- Military Medkit: application time is 1s, health regeneration is 75 in 5 seconds. Temporarily decreases incoming weapon damage by 15%
- Science Medkit: application time 1s, health regeneration 75 in 5 seconds. Temporarily reduces the damage of anomalies by 50%
- Antitoxin: protection from anomalies increased to 100%
- Painkiller: damage reduction decreased to 25%
- Increased armor protection of level 10 equipment
- Maximum protection against anomalies reduced to 95% (from 130%)
- Maximum protection from anomalies of boots and gloves increased to 5% (from 4%)
- Maximum protection from anomalies of masks and vests reduced to 15% (from 23% and 22% respectively)
- Maximum protection from anomalies of pants and backpacks reduced to 10% (from 13% and 17% respectively)
- Maximum protection from anomalies of helmets reduced to 5% (from 13%)
- Changed level of protection from anomalies of all the equipment
- Maximum protection from anomalies modifier on masks and vests increased to 7% with 1.4% increments (up from 5% with 1% increments)
- Maximum modifier of protection from anomalies of boots, gloves and helmets reduced to 2% with 0.4% increments (down from 5% with 1% increments)

Missions System Redesign

- Removed the time limit to finish missions
- After completing a mission with a gold medal the mission will be replaced by a new one after some time
- You can change one of your missions for free once per 24 hours
- When changing a faction, the mission progress is saved. Rewards for not completed stages are changed in accordance with your reputation in the current faction
- Premium account increases rewards for missions by 50%
- Increased reward for completing missions with a gold medal
- If you have reached the maximum reputation level with your current faction you will now receive silver for completing missions with a gold medal

User Interface

Added a brief description of the collected artifacts when you press Tab in battle
Changed notification when a battery is stolen or when it spawns on the map in Battery Retrieval mode

Optimization

- Added simplified models (LOD) of equipment to display at long distances. This will improve the performance of the game
- LOD for models of Scavengers equipment: levels 4, 5, 6, 9
- LOD for models of Black Market equipment: levels 4, 5, 6, 8, 9
- LOD for models of The Fringe Settlers equipment: levels 4, partly 5, 6, 8, 9
- LOD for models of The Renaissance Army equipment: levels 4, 5, 7, 9, 10

Visuals and Animations

- Updated UZI animations
- Updated anomaly animations
- Fixed anomalies position and position of artifacts in the anomalies
- Fixed the visuals of VSS and VSS Vintorez magazines for 20 rounds
- Improved lighting in several places of London, Rudnya, Tarakanovsky Fort, Chemical Plant and School locations
- Fixed position of the character's arms while holding machine pistols in the lobby. Now they don't go through the body
- Fixed reload animation of SKS
- Updated shot animations of Benelli M4, Remington 870

Sound Fixes

- Reduced the volume of steps when in first and third person. The range of audibility remains the same
- Fixed the range of audibility of all submachine guns
- Fixed the firing sound of VSS in first person
- Fixed the firing sound of A545 in first person
- Fixed the firing sound of P90 in first person
- Fixed panning of firing sound of SKS and RPD in third person. Now it is positioned correctly
- Fixed sound events in some animations of weapons reloading
- Added unique sound of grenades falling on a metal surface
- Changed the sound of ambient rain to a more suitable one for Rudnya. Added new environment sounds
- Fixed positions of environment sound zones. Added ambient sounds for the premises during a sand storm

Bug Fixes

- You can no longer install the game on drives with FAT32 file system (it was never supported in the first place)
- Fixed the calculation formula of armor penetration. Now when a bullet doesnt penetrate the armor, the minimum damage is lower
- Fixed trigger areas of PMN-3 and MON-50 mines
- Fixed an issue when wounded hands did not give penalty to accuracy
- Fixed an issue when a fracture of both hands did not block the use of two-handed weapons
- Fixed a desynchronization when watching replays of matches. Because of this, replays from the previous versions of the game are not supported in 0.33
- Fixed anomalies damage areas
- Fixed a bug which displayed incorrect (zero) level of equipment required to perform missions
- Fixed scrolling friends list with a mouse wheel
- Fixed timer for changing modifiers for silver
- Fixed removing a decal from the first slot when two slots are already occupied
- Fixed applying decals and camos
- Fixed an issue with resetting quests for gold
- Fixed a notification issue when purchasing equipment in the faction window

Changes in Ban System

Added intermediate account bans. The restrictions are the same as in the case of an ordinary ban, but the player receives a notification of a suspected violation of the rules. A detailed investigation is conducted by the games Customer Support for 3-7 days, and after that time a final decision is made. When the player tries to log into the game during the intermediate ban period, he or she receives a corresponding notification.

On December 8, starting at 10 AM (GMT+2) to 12 PM (GMT+2) the main game servers will be temporarily unavailable due to the installation of Survarium 0.33. We will let you know when the update is finished and you can enter the game. The final list of changes will be published when the update goes live. See you in Survarium 0.33!

- Barrett M82: rate of fire decreased to 45, penalty to spread while moving increased by 25%;
- VSS: rate of fire increased to 650;
- VSK-94: rate of fire decreased to 650;
- Armor of the majority of helmets and masks of levels 8-10 decreased by 5-10 points;
- Paratrooper backpack: "+1 ammo" changed to "+1 medicine";
- Bandit backpack: "+1 explosives" changed to "+1 ammo";
- Watchman backpack: removed "+1 ammo" property;

Survarium 0.33a3 PTS Change Log

Gameplay

- Armor is now 1.5 times less effective in reducing explosive damage;
- Mine deactivation time reduced to 2 seconds;
- Reduced the health threshold after which limbs are considered broken;
- MON-50 damage increased to 350;
- The size of all of medkits reduced to 1;
- Bandage: application time is 0.3s, health regeneration is 25 in 1.5 seconds;
- Medkit: application time is 1s, health regeneration is 100 in 5 seconds;
- Military Medkit: application time is 1s, health regeneration is 75 in 5 seconds. Temporarily decreases incoming weapon damage by 15%;

- Fixed a bug displaying oxygen in the life support system;
- Removed protection from anomalies from the life support system;

The Renaissance Army:
- PMK-7S: protection from anomalies increased to 15% (from 10%);
- Hip fire dispersion bonus of OZK-18KB gloves decreased to -6% (from -10%);
- Stamina cost -8% bonus removed from OZK-18KB boots;
- Vityaz-S Helmet: armor increased to 50 (from 45);
- Scout Helmet: weight reduced to 0.7 kg (from 1.5 kg);
- UM-2 Molot: weight reduced to 12kg (from 15kg);
- UM-2A Molot: weight reduced to 12kg (from 15kg);
- Assault Backpack moved to the 10th level of equipment (from the 8th). The number of pouches for ammo reduced to 1 (from 2), added a slot for explosives. The price raised to 80000 silver (from 45000);

The third season Survarium leagues season has ended. Here is a short summary.

Note that this time the season was longer. As a result, more players managed to break into the top leagues and get the highest rewards. So, 89 players have finished the season in Legendary League, 1147 – in Master League, and 2222 – in Veterans League. Congratulations to all the winners and we wish all the players new victories in the future!
We have been closely monitoring the leagues and examining the shortcomings of the current system. Some conclusions have already been made, so expect a number of changes in the leagues in the future. Detailed plans for the next season will be announced later.

We're glad to announce that the Public Test Server with Survarium update 0.33 is live! To participate in the test, please download new game version. You can install the PTS version simultaneously with Survarium version 0.32. Please note that the PTS will only be available during work hours on weekdays. Also temporary shutdowns are possible when installing updates and making urgent changes.

You can participate in the test if you registered on Survarium website no later than November 24.

The Public Test Server is located in CIS, so players from Americas and Europe will have a higher ping compared to public version of the game. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to login to the PTS if you have registered via Steam due to a different authentication system. You can still play on public server after Survarium 0.33 release!

All testers will receive a million silver and ten thousand gold to make purchases on the PTS. All ranks with all Survarium factions will be unlocked so you can buy any weapons and equipment you want. Characters and progress in the main game as of November 24 will be copied to the test server. However, the progress you make during the test will not be transferred back to the main server! The PTS has no way if receiving payments, so purchases made in Survarium shop are automatically credited to your account on the main server.

Read the update notes of Survarium 0.33 below. Please note that those are not final. The public server will receive version improved based on the results of the testing! See you on the PTS!

During the event you will get x2 points each time you earn a positive rating after a match. And if your rating drops, the points are reduced as usual.

Change in the number of supplies

One major change will be the redesign of slots for supplies. We’ll remove the modifier that increases the size of the pockets. Instead, there will be a system of specialized slots in Survarium. There will be four types of supply slots in equipment items.

General slot: This will allow you to equip any type of supplies. The number depends on the particular type. For example, you can take 2 bandages or 2 grenades, but only 1 mine.
Medicine slot: This will allow you to take more medicine, but you cannot put other types of supplies in the slot. Medicines are bandages, medkits, painkillers and antitoxin.
Grenade slot: This will allow you to take more than one grenade, but you cannot put other types of supplies in the slot. Grenades are the RGD-5, RGO and Smoke grenade.
Mines and Traps slot: This will allow you to take more than one mine or trap, but you cannot put other types of supplies in the slot. Mines and Traps are the PMN-3, MON-50 and Hunting trap.

Changes in items parameters

Together with the introduction of new supply slots, mechanics we rebalanced on some equipment. Mostly the changes have affected the number of pouches for ammunition, containers for artifacts, as well as the number and type of slots. Some items of equipment have received additional features. We have also added a new random modifier – explosion protection. This modifier can only be obtained on your helmet, bulletproof vest and pants.

We tried to enhance the specialization of equipment depending on the chosen faction. Thus you will not find containers for artifacts in The Renaissance Army items. But if you want to use the artifacts to the max, consider using equipment of The Fringe Settlers. Equipment of Black Market will allow you to use more mines and traps. Using Scavengers armor you can equip a whole heap of medkits.

We have prepared a table with the new item parameters. We will publish it when the update goes live.

Updated Missions

Changes to the missions system are long overdue. Daily quests are a great way to get more experience, money and reputation. Unfortunately, as a character levels up, the efficiency of missions decreases. The mission timer makes it worse because it does not always successfully match your play time. In addition, when changing faction, you often lose the ability to perform any missions for that day.

In Survarium 0.33 we will make the following changes to the daily missions:

Remove the timer. There won’t a time limit for daily missions.
Missions will not be canceled and reset when changing faction. Reputation received for the jobs will be added to your reputation with the current grouping.
After completing a mission with a gold medal, the mission will be automatically replaced with a new one, after a while. If you don't want to wait you can get a new mission for in-game gold.
Once a day you can cancel any mission regardless of its progress. Already received rewards will remain with you. If you cancel you will immediately receive a new mission.
Missions can still be made easier for Gold.
Reputation reward for completing a mission with a gold medal will be increased.
If you have maximum reputation with the currently selected faction, then for completing a mission with a gold medal you will receive a significant amount of silver.

New Game Events

In Survarium update 0.33 we will add two new in-game events.
Infinite Respect – during the event you will get X2 experience and reputation for victory in battle!
Treasures of the Old World – during the event you will get a better reward for ransacking stashes after a battle.
The launch dates of these events will be announced later.

The Public Test Server launch date will be announced later. Stay tuned!

Testing is an essential part of Survarium development. Finding errors, checking objects on the map, debugging animations and other game features is the responsibility of the QA Department (Quality Assurance). Find out how Survarium is tested in our interview with Tatyana Gaponenko, an employee of the Vostok Games QA Department.

It's quite strange to see a female tester of computer games. How did you get the job at Vostok Games? Did you work in the gaming industry previously?

There's nothing strange about that. I've got a systematic mind and technical education. I love science and I've been playing videogames since childhood.

My profession is in research engineering, so subconsciously I examine objects and find errors in them. Though in general, in IT, it doesn't matter whether you're a girl or a guy, you only need to be smart enough :-)

I haven't worked in the gaming industry before Vostok. I attended courses in software testing, independently studied the basics of programming, and solved logical problems.

After seeing the vacancy of software tester (Game QA engineer) on the Vostok Games website, I decided to apply for the job.

I passed two interviews and here I am, working on the Survarium project.

How does QA Department at Vostok Games work? Describe your working day.

We have a friendly and fun team of six people. In the morning I usually have a coffee and dive into the bug tracking system.

We review the tasks for the day and draw up a work plan. Tasks are distributed among the testers according to this plan. We may test a new game build or verify already fixed bugs.

What processes are involved in the detection of and fixing of bugs?

We get a certain task. After that, we work out the algorithm of actions and prepare testing plans.

During testing we find bugs and prepare technical documents (bug reports). Such documents contain complete descriptions of bugs (errors in the game), including information about the bug and about the conditions of its appearance. Then programmers fix these errors, and we check everything all over again. Depending on the number of bug fixes, testing takes different amounts of time.

How often do players help finding bugs that the testers missed? How does it work? Do you interact with Survarium Customer Support?

Players are the main instigators of our work. Often Customer support informs us about various bugs that players have found.

For example, many are bugs that we have not yet found because of the huge variety of PC system configurations and settings that players use.

I want to thank the players and to assure them that we send reports on all the bugs you find to the developers.

Sometimes in development, a bug remains unfixed for several versions of the game. Why does this happen?

Trust me; the developers want to fix all bugs they're aware of.

However on occasion, for technical reasons, fixing some bugs quickly is impossible. It's only left for us to wait for fixes in the next version of the game.

Sometimes after an update some of the old bugs become irrelevant.

Lots of fans say: "It's so awesome to just play video games every day and get paid for it!" What can you say to these guys?

"It's so awesome to be a bus driver, just ride a bus and get paid for it!" Same thing, right? People need to do their work with pleasure.

We do not simply play a video game here. Testing is a complex process, which is, of course, exciting and unpredictable, but also requires perseverance and care with the use of technical knowledge.

What can you recommend to players who want to be testers? Do they need special education?

Testers have very different education. The main thing is the ability to find bugs, examine, and explore everything around you, starting with simple things, like a pencil, and finishing with complex software.

How do you spend your spare time?

I like to spend my spare time at the computer, studying and reading something new. I'm also into sports. For me achieving fitness goals contribute to achievements in my work and overall success in life.

Topic: Survarium Update 0.32 is Live. Play Now!

Starting at 11:00 EET (UTC+2) tomorrow (November 4, 2015) the game servers will be temporarily unavailable due to the installation of Survarium 0.32c. The expected downtime is less than an hour. We will let you know as soon as the servers are back online, so you are able play the game. As usual, players with boosters and premium accounts affected by the downtime will be compensated for the length of maintenance.

It’s hard to imagine the world of Survarium without visual effects increasing the feeling of post-apocalypse. Among those effects are smoke, anomalies, explosions and gunfire. These and other similar tasks are created by an FX artist.

Read an interview with Taras Tereshchenko, FX artist of Vostok Games, and learn about specifics of creating effects for Survarium.

What does an FX Artist do? What effects in Survarium have you been working on?

My field of activity includes a whole bunch of duties.

First of all, development of particle systems. Including all the sub processes. For example, gunfire and explosions, smoke and fog. These can be called Particle based FX.

The second group is responsibilities can be labeled as Surface based FX. In this case we are talking about the effects for which a special model is created. This model, as a rule, has a looped animation. For instance, the Heart anomaly in Mamayev Kurgan. Perhaps you remember (now cut) anomaly with flying blocks in Tarakanovsky Fort, where we used the same approach.

The third group includes Shader based FX. The job is to configure complex multi-component materials, which aim to simulate a specific dynamic phenomenon. For example, the swamp fog in Rudnya.

Also in addition to regular duties, I actively participate in the development of features for the Vostok Engine which are connected to effects. This group of duties can be called R&D (Research and Development).

The last group of responsibilities like the previous one is also not quite typical for an FX Artist. Nevertheless, it fairly describes my activities in the company. It includes creation of animated cutscenes, videos, textures, icons for the engine, testing new functionality, modifying shaders, models and materials, and much more...

As I am the only FX Artist in the company I personally develop all the effects.


How do you start working on effects? How long does it take to create an effect?

Development of an effect, depending on its nature, may go in two directions. When it comes to some familiar phenomenon, for example, a visual effect of an explosion or a gunshot, the initial step will be the analysis of references. I watch numerous videos posted on the Internet by military enthusiasts. When it comes to something that does not exist in the real world, I have to appeal to the imagination. Often the result is an unusual combination of fabrics, textures and mechanics, which may be seen separately but never together.

The duration of work on an effect is determined by the number of its constituent elements, its mechanics, and primarily by the complexity of the textures of its materials. Often the creation of textures for an effect takes 90% of the total production time and is the most difficult part of it. Also it requires a lot of time to rework something when there is a misunderstanding with game designers. We often have to sacrifice aesthetics in favor of practicality and performance.

Which effects were the most interesting and challenging to work on?

I find working on non-existent phenomena the most interesting and challenging. Instead of copying you create your own reality, which lives according to your own laws of the nature of things.

On the second place are massive natural disasters, at which an observer looks with awe.

Some of these effects have not yet been disclosed and await implementation in the Storm game mode.


Were there ideas that you had to abandon for various reasons?

Well, quite a lot. Although some of the ideas briefly appeared in the game. Most of abandoned ideas or effects have a few things in common: some of the ideas require additional functionality that is not implemented yet, many are too demanding for performance.

But there is another group of effects that were abandoned due to changes in the game logic. It is the latter group that causes fierce debate over its fate among the developers and confusion among fans.

Some of the effects for the game look impressive and atmospheric. For example, a lightning strike contacting a radio antenna at Vostok Radar Station like in your video. Why effects like that were not added to the game? What is the reason?

Speaking specifically of the lightning effect, there are several reasons why it was removed.

The first is problems with framerate. As we all understand, this effect is appropriate for rainy version of the level, which requires the most from the user's PC. Recently the increase in framerate is becoming more and more a priority, as the game is played not only on high-end machines but on outdated ones as well.

The second and perhaps more important reason is that the particles for the lighting play a crucial role in this effect. Issues with the lighting and shading of the whole level, and also the clouds of the sky are still not resolved. At this stage we can't afford to distract a programmer from the renderer related priorities for the sake of the effect.

Many players believe that the anomalies in Survarium are too bright and don't fit into the game world. Should players expect anomalies with new effects in the foreseeable future? By the way, how do you see these anomalies as an FX artist?

I assume we are talking about artifacts that appear in random places around the level. I heard about the discontent regarding their appearance. I can only say I've been redesigning some of them. And these changes are now on the way to integration into the game.

But I must say that the changes are not revolutionary. I still believe that the word "anomaly" means something extraordinary, and these effects can't be dull: it is energy, it's plasma, it's toxic fluorescent smoke, and radioactive spores... It is a feature of our game, and you can find such things only in Survarium.

Although I admit I would like to see fewer anomalies on the level simultaneously. But I'm not a game designer, so I don’t call the shots.

What effects would you add to Survarium locations?

If you abstract away from current capabilities, I want to see some serious destruction, big explosions which cover a large area with shards and dust. Also, in my opinion, there are not enough atmospheric anomalies that would fascinate players with their scale and spectacularity. We are talking about dust storms with lightning strikes, neutron storms with strong emission of quasars into space. I would love to work on forest fires, global smoke, mud volcanoes...

What tasks have you engaged in or will engage in the future in the development of the free play mode?

In Free Play mode one will be able to observe a large number of particles at the same time that have a negative impact on performance. In this regard, now great attention is paid to principles of Particle LOD (level of detail).

Otherwise my tasks will not be fundamentally different from the tasks in Team Deathmatch.
